Blueprint

The Museum of Tourism in Trauttmansdorff Castle constitutes a museum of regional tourism for the whole of South Tyrol. It addresses tourism in its many and various roles: as an economic factor, a social development, an occasion for encountering and learning about different cultures, as both a result of and a generator of social change, and as a factor shaping the landscape and the local culture. The Museum aims to illustrate both the historical development and the current state of all these aspects of tourism and by so doing to explain and reinforce local identity.

The Museum is an expression of local self confidence, but also a place which offers the opportunity to reflect on what has already been achieved and considers what future developments would be desirable. Tourism and the presence of tourists in South Tyrol affect the whole population directly or indirectly. The Museum's objective, therefore, is to generate an awareness of the complex subject of tourism amongst as wide a public as possible.

Educational Aims:

Basically the Museum aims to provide answers to the following questions:
- How did this tourist area become the way it is now?
- How do I "operate" as a traveller or as a person living in a tourist country who has to cope with travelers on a daily basis?
- How does tourism function as an industry?
