One travels to take the cure 1830-1850

The village Spa

Taking the cure has a long tradition in Tyrol. Since the 17th century the merchants of Bozen, Meran and Innsbruck have been spending the hot summer days with their families up in the hills - the custom known as "Sommerfrische." Since the Middle Ages it has been a Tyrolean custom to recuperate in one of the many village bathing establishments - simple barns with wooden bathtubs- and to live it up in the adjoining inn!
