A first high point 1890-1914

Best wishes from…

In the Franco-Prussian war (1870-71) the Prussian army issues plain postcards to their soldiers - to be used for short messages to the family at home. The new form of communication soon becomes popular as a holiday souvenir. Initially the address field occupies one full side of the card. In 1905 this is reduced to half a side, and the illustrated postcard comes into its own.
