A visionary idea
In
1930 the Milan architect Gio Ponti, working for the Tourist Ministry, plans
a huge development to open up the Dolomites. A 160 km long network of cable
railways is to link Bolzano and Cortina, with hotels complete with restaurants
and skilifts at vantage points in between. His "Perfect Tourist Project" is
to remain only a vision. In 1936, however, Ponti draws on some of the hotel
plans when building the Hotel Paradiso in Martello.
