“Foreigners” arrive 1870-1890

Foreign Investment

The accommodation in Tyrol leaves much to be desired. The Wiener Baugesellschaften and other foreign investors spot the gap in the market and build new hotels in Meran, Arco, Gries and Toblach. In 1887 the heir to the German throne, Friedrich, stays in the new Southern Railway hotel in Toblach. After the death of the popular monarch, Toblach becomes a travel destination for many Germans.
