The origins of mass tourism
"Everything
within the state, nothing outside it." In 1925, in accordance with
this doctrine of Mussolini's, the leisure organisation "Dopolavoro" (After
work) is founded. It presents a popular image and organises - always under
the control of the Fascist state apparatus - excursions and short holidays.
In 1933 Hitler founds a similar organisation in Germany, the KdF (Kraft
durch Freude, or Strength through Joy).
