The «Option» and the South Tyroleans

In the summer of 1939 Hitler and Mussolini agree on a solution to the "Problem of South Tyrol", known as the "Option". Those who want to remain "German" should emigrate "home to the Reich". Over 80 per cent opted for Germany and over 70,000 actually set off, including many employed in tourism.
