Masses of holidaymakers come zooming over the new Brenner motorway. The Alps are turning into an all-year-round adventure park. South Tyrol registers a large influx thanks to the development of winter sports.

"Traffic is a sign of life"
In 1971 the motorway from Innsbruck to Brenner is completed. The section between the Brenner and Verona follows three years later. The number of cars travelling over the pass soon reaches a figure of 2 million a year. But cars bumper to bumper are still seen as a sign of progress.

Skiing like Thöni
At the World Championships in Gröden in 1970 the young star skier, Gustav Thöni, fails to fulfill expectations. Soon, however, his successes are being celebrated throughout Italy. Skiing become a popular sport. Ski resorts get organised with new lifts and ski-slopes.
